Literary Correspondent: With a sordid past involving illustrations, libraries, and subtitles, Chris has reinvented himself as a specialist in the liberal insertion of puns. Like anyone working with words, he hides an embarrassing novel in his drawer but not in his drawers.

Panelist: Dedicated high school teacher by day and halfhearted salsa student by night, Eric has extensive comic book knowledge and an affinity for convoluted puns. He also quotes French films in their original language, but don't be too hard on him.

Editor in Chief / Movie Critic: When he started this site, Dimitri never thought he'd be writing blurbs about himself in the third person. In his other life, he works as a writer, translator, and editor for various publications in print and online. His motto is, "Have pen, will travel."

  • Fire! Wind! Earth! Water! Hear

I can’t recommend horror movies because I like almost everything… Unrelatedly, did any of you watch Stranger Things, and, if so, how did you like it? Is it the new Twin Peaks/Silent Hill?

The Wreck It Ralph sequel where they fight a virus is essentially the TV show Reboot, isn’t it? And an Up sequel might be about Russell going on another adventure in memory of Carl’s passing, but that is too similar. Feels like it should be about Russell, in any case.

Another possible Poison Ivy I keep forgetting to write is Lily Cole. Again, not entirely sure about her acting skills. but she has a really interesting look.

    • As you may have noticed, I’m a little bit behind on posting our recordings, but Chris does talk about Stranger Things in an upcoming show and tell. He likes it. I haven’t watched it yet.

I’m still waiting for the real Reboot, uh, reboot, so I don’t want no pale Wreck-It Ralph imitation of it! As for Up, I’m not sure Carl grieving Russell is the way I would go with it. The relationship between a child and a surrogate parent tends to be too subtle for use as a dramatic device. While Carl would certainly need to mourn, I don’t think I’d buy him going on a dangerous adventure as an homage. I think I’d be more interested in seeing Russell help Carl deal with his complex (and largely repressed) feelings regarding his absentee father, and having to deal with his own ambivalence about playing mentor to a child he wishes he could have raised with the love of his life… I dunno. Maybe that’s too out there for the new Pixar?

Lily Cole strangely reminds me of the little girl they have playing Ivy over in Gotham… Or should I say “had playing”, seeing as she’s going to be replaced by grown-up sexpot Maggie Geha. Thoughts?
